PLEDGE GREEN GRATITUDE

As Primus Private School is one of the schools participating in the Inter School Environmental Drive and Challenge UAE 2015, the opening ceremony of “I Pledge Green Gratitude”, was held in Primus Private School on 5th October 2015.Children participated in a plethora of activities. The program started off with a splendid dance performance which highlighted the importance of saving environment. Our young designers of grades 3 to 6 designed their fashion-forward garments that are made from recycled materials. Children took the pledge dressed in recycled items’ outfit. The entire school was dressed in green to add pomp and splendour to the occasion. This one month long campaign aims to create a generation to build a sustainable environment.

 

ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATIONS IN PRIMUS PRIVATE SCHOOL

“Our Earth – Our Future – Just Save it”

Environment Day was celebrated in Primus with great enthusiasm and vigour. Every year the school celebrates Environment day to help the students understand the importance of the three P’s – Protect, Preserve and Promote Mother Earth. On the eve of the Environment day on 4th June, the children across the school were dressed in green to add pomp and splendour to the occasion.

PAPER AND CAN COLLECTION DRIVE

The Primus Private School Kindergarten celebrated the World Environment Week from Sunday 31st May to Thursday 4th June. A paper and can collection drive was held to inculcate the habit of proper waste management and recycling amongst our little ones.

GREEN PARADE

The environment day in kindergarten on the 4th of June started off with a parade. It was a pleasure to see the little earth warriors dressed in green, don their headbands and participate in the environment day parade, waving their green flags and singing the special song about “keeping the earth green”.

 

SPECIAL ASSEMBLY AND POTTING THE PLANT

To instill “GREEN VALUES”  a special assembly was conducted by our little kindergarteners. Eco ambassadors elected from each class took pledge of promoting green awareness and planted a sapling.

 

RE-CYCLED CRAFT AND COLOURING COMPETITON

An inter-class colouring competition based on the theme “Save Our Planet” was held to promote environmental awareness among the tiny tots. The Kindergarten students also created best out of waste for their art and craft sessions.

 

SPECIAL ASSEMBLIES

A special assembly was conducted by students of grades 1 and 2 to highlight the importance of the three R’s Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. The special assembly conducted by the Green Gang members of the Primus created  awareness in the children towards a greener earth.

 

RE-CYCLED CRAFT

A better environment means a better tomorrow. To create this awareness in the young minds of our students of Grades 1 and 2 a recycled craft activity was planned. Students of Grades 1 and 2 made paper bags out of old newspapers. These included a message to save the earth.

 

THE MAGIC OF LEAVES

The budding artists of Grade 3 made beautiful art work with leaves. The children expressed their creativity using leaves as a medium to display aquatic habitat, forest habitat etc.

 

JEWELLERY DESIGN/ TOYS FROM WASTE

Grade 4 children designed jewellery out of waste/ eco-friendly materials. They also made toys from waste materials. The children took the initiative to exhibit their creation in  “Best out of Waste.”

 

VISIT TO ASWAAQ MALL

Grade 5 visited Aswaaq super market at Al – Warqa , where they spoke to  customers about the significance of environment day and ways to practise the 3 R’S (Reduce,Recycle and Reuse)

 

BOX GARDEN

Students of Grades 6 to 9 showcased their creativity by making a miniature garden in a shoebox. They made beautiful miniature gardens with materials like sand/mud, plants, pebbles etc.

 

World Environment Conference

Green Hope conducted its World Environment Day Conference on 1st June, based on this year’s theme–‘Seven Billion Dreams.One Planet. Consume with Care’.
 
Fifteen students from Grades 7 and 8 took part in this conference held at Gems Millennium School, Al Khail.

 

Environment Day Celebrations in Primus 

           “Take care of the earth and she will take care of you”

Environment Day was celebrated in Primus Private School on the 5th June, 2014 with great enthusiasm and vigour. Each year the school celebrates the environment day for a whole week conducting variety of programs to help the students understand the importance of the three P’s – Protect, Preserve and Promote Mother Earth. The past few months have seen the school going completely green. The initiative was taken by the school for this venture by being a part of the UAE Green Festival in the month of April.

A paper and can collection drive was conducted in the Kindergarten through the week to inculcate the habit of proper waste management and recycling amongst the little ones.

WATER CONSERVATION

Grade 1 & 2 celebrated Environment and Water Conservation Week from 1st to 5th June with a host of activities across the grades culminating with the World Environment Day. Grade 1 came up with a wonderful corridor display on ways to save paper and Grade 2 came out with a great corridor display on ways to save water.

GREEN HOPE

             On 2nd June , Kehkashan Basu,UNEP’s (United Nations Environment Program) youngest Global Co-ordinator for children and youth and founder of Green Hope UAE visited our school and interacted with students of Grades 6.Uniquely created by schools for schools, the Green Hope UAE, conducted a workshop in Primus for the students of grade 6 in connection with the 2014 World Environment Day. This was done through group activities to inculcate awareness among children on the importance for a greener environment.

ECOPHILIA

            As an initiative towards creating awareness among youth for a greener Earth, few students from Grades 5,6,8 participated in the 2nd Inter-School Environment Competition – Ecophilia 2014 hosted by Our Own High School on June 2nd .They participated in a host of events like  fancy dress competition on the theme ‘Think Green,Eat Green, Go Green’, Jal Utsav – A dance competition celebrating showers, Budding environmentalist – on ‘Strategic Planning’, Drawing and Painting on theme –‘Make a Difference’. Our students won the first prize in Jal Utsav.

POTTING THE PLANT

The environment day celebrations in the kindergarten started off with a parade followed by a special assembly. It was a pleasure to see the little earth warriors dressed in green ,don their headbands and participate in the environment day parade, waving their green flags and singing the special song about “keeping the earth green”. During the day each class potted saplings, labelling their pots. Watering their own plants was so very exciting for the little ones. A colouring competition with the theme “Save Our Planet” was held to promote environmental awareness among the tiny tots.

BEST OUT OF WASTE

             A special assembly was held by Grade 2 students highlighting the importance of not cutting down trees and on not polluting air and water. The children made origami caps and trays with magazine paper , waste bins were made in each class with throw away cartons and newspapers which will be used throughout the year to keep paper for recycling. With the help of Parent Volunteers an exhibition was held along the Grade 2 corridors displaying Best Out of Waste which attracted a great audience of students, teachers and parents alike and it was the highlight of the day.

 POSTER MAKING AND COLLAGE

The primary and middle school children participated in a plethora of activities. The special assembly conducted by the Green Gang members of the Primus created awareness in the children towards a greener earth. Grade 3 , 4 and 5 had poster making competition on the theme “Save our Environment”. The children assembled on the ground and formed a Primus formation taking the pledge to keep our earth green. Grade 6 was involved in a collage making competition.

VISIT TO ASWAAQ MALL AND DEWA

Grade 7 and 8 visited Aswaaq super market at Al – Warqa , where they spoke to customers about the significance of Environment Day and ways to practise the 3 R’S (Reduce,Reuse and Recycle).A few students were invited to attend the Eco Summit conducted by DEWA and Green Hope.

 

 

 Workshop on World Environment Day

Uniquely created by schools for schools, the Green Hope UAE, conducted a workshop in Primus for the students of grade 6 in connection with the 2014 World Environment Day which is on the 5th of June. The Green Hope UAE is a global Peer-to-Peer network of schools represented by faculty, staff and students, working together to solve climate and conservation challenges. This was done through group activities to inculcate an awareness among children on the importance for a greener environment. The students participated whole heartedly and enjoyed the activities.

 

U A E Green Festival

“Live, Learn and have fun in a low carbon world!”, Students of Primus participated in various activities. Children collected plastic bottles and dropped them in the collection box at school for recycling. As part of Green Tours, the students of Grades 1 and 2 visited the park and nursery. Our little designers of grades 3 and 4 designed their fashion – forward garments that were made from recycled materials. Students of Grade 5 changed trash to treasure and showcased them in their “Best out of Waste” exhibition. The children used their talent and imagination by creating wonderful things from waste materials. The Grade 6-8 spoke at length about “Go Green”. Our school received a Certificate of Appreciation from the relevant authorities for our initiatives and being part of the U A E Green Festival.

 

World Environment Day

Lessons taught at a young age have a lasting impression on one’s mind. Preparing young children as good environmentalist is the need of the day. To do so, our school celebrated the Environment Week with great enthusiasm and vigor. Each student came to school wearing shades of green and pledged to do their little bit to save the environment. The eco warriors from Kindergarten to Grade 7 participated in eco-friendly activities doing every bit in ensuring that our planet continues to be a pristine place for us and our future generations to live in. The students took part in a myriad of ‘Go green’ activities such as the Clean up drives, Inter house poster making and drawing competition depicting the theme ‘Mother Earth’ and morning assemblies advocating environmental.

Kehkashan Basu, the Global Coordinator for Children and Youth – UNEP MGFC visited our school and interacted with students from Grades 5-7. Few of our students participated in the Environmental Academy at Deira International School conducted by Kehkashan, on 8th June, as part of the sustainability drive to commemorate World Environment Day.

In order to make the school more eco friendly a new Eco-Committee called the GREEN GANG comprising of students and teachers was formed on Environment Day.

The earth warriors of Kindergarten, all dressed in green, donned their headbands and participated in the Green parade, singing as they marched,  promising to keep the earth clean and green. The tiny tots were excited to receive their very own “Air Freshener” saplings.

Students of Grades 1-4 transformed trash to treasure and learnt the importance of reusing old items to create new marvels. They also took their Green Buddy home and pledged to take care of their buddy.

Students of Grade 5 spread the message of sustainable future and greener environment by writing their messages on leaves which were displayed on the PLEDGE TREE.

The girls of Grades 6 and 7 reached out to a Mall in the vicinity of the school and spoke to the customers about conserving energy, wastage of water and using re-usable product.

The boys of Grades 6 and 7 proved that action speaks louder than words by making the MAP of UAE using bottle caps collected in the school.

 

Recycled Paper at Primus

The students of Grade 5 have successfully made first recycle paper at school with the help of teachers.

EEG “Art From Waste” Exhibition

‘Knowing is not enough, we must apply; willing is not enough, we must do’

Primus Private School participated in the ‘Art from Waste’ Exhibition organized by Emirates Environmental Group for the prize giving ceremony. Major General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director of General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners’ Affairs-Dubai and Dr. Mohammed Saeed Al Kindi, Former Minister of Environment and Water inaugurated the ceremony. It was a great platform to exhibit the excellent items made out of waste by our students for the EEG Prize giving ceremony. Ms Habiba Al Marashi, EEG chairman spoke to the students and gave them an insight about the environmental situation and the need of protecting it.  Primus received a participation certificate which was handed by Habiba Al Marashi, EEG chairman

 

Reuse, Reduce & Recycle By Ronald Mcdonald

Marking the occasion of the World Environment Day, Primus Private School hosted a variety of events to encourage children and parents to come together in supporting the cause of sustaining a greener future.

One of the highlight of the events was the show by Outside agency Ronald McDonald. An informative session about Reducing, Reusing and Recycling was imparted to the children through games, music and various activities.
