Kindergarten –A Special Learning Ground

The kindergarten curriculum is child oriented, focused around play and individuality of the child. We firmly believe that the children need to be happy if they are to learn. The child friendly vibrant and stimulating environment helps to nurture children’s inate joy of learning. Our qualified and well experienced teachers are able to motivate children with love and care using best methods to enhance the curiosity and help children satisfy their urge to enquire and learn.

Our curriculum provides enriched programme that help children develop at their own pace and reach towards their potential. Children are exposed to a variety of exciting and positive experiences and hands on activities which enable them to explore and enliven their interest. Keeping the international standard in mind the curriculum for our little learners is based on early learning goals and adapted successfully to provide the necessary range and balance of educational experiences.

The curriculum has been divided into six broad areas of learning and development.

Communication and Language Skills

It involves listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Show and tell, story-telling, recitation, singing, puppetry and dramatics provide children with opportunities to learn, enjoy and use words in a broad range of context.

In writing they use pictures, symbols, familiar words and sentences to communicate meaning, showing awareness of some of the different purposes of writing.

Numeracy and Problem Solving Skills

Children are engaged in activities and play experiences that enhance their understanding of number concepts and problem solving skills.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

Children learn to develop a sensitive and growing understanding of the world around them through questioning, observing, measuring, pattern seeking, predicting and communicating.

Creative Development

Children are given opportunities to express their feelings and ideas through a host of activities like painting, moulding and printing. They are inspired to unleash their imagination and explore different media and respond to a variety of sensory experiences.

Children are trained to sing simple songs and recognize simple sounds, sound patterns and match movements to music.

Social and Emotional Development

Children are encouraged to play alongside others, build relationships with adults and peers. They are taught to work as part of a group, take turns and share fairly. Moral values are inculcated in students by teaching them the virtues.

Physical Development

Children are trained to establish a positive attitude towards healthy and active way of life. Emphasis is laid on developing their physical control, mobility, awareness of space and manipulative skills in indoor and outdoor environment.

Computer Skills

We expose our children to the IT world from a very young age. Our state-of-the-art computer labs and Audio Visual rooms are an indication of our adaptability to the ever changing IT world. They provide every student the opportunity to use the computer on one to one ratio, thus making them techno-smart.

Assessment and Evaluation

There is no formal testing in the kindergarten classes. Teachers observe, monitor and document the progress of each student on an on-going basis. A record of the child’s performance is maintained. Parents are sent an appraisal of their child’s performance at the end of every term.

Kindergarten Reading Program – School Home Link

The reading program is designed to develop a link between school and home. The program aims to  familiarise parents with the teaching techniques implemented for the kindergartners at Primus Private School, and thereby enable them to adopt similar techniques with their children at home as well.

To effectively achieve this purpose, the book is being sent home at regular intervals for parents to make ample and suitable use of it.

The contents of the book for kindergarten 1 include fun activities related to the phonic sounds, identification of the upper and lower case letters of the alphabet, sight words and simple sentences. Beginning sounds, middle sounds and ending sounds of words, CVC words and digraphs are some of the topics which comprise the kindergarten 2 book.
